Well Mr Bill is at it again, Six years and his only real claims to fame is making more speeches
and being more photographed than any other president in history. He takes credit for all that is
good, and blames all that is bad on anyone he can point a finger at. But what do you expect from
a career politician. In his latest speech, perhaps the most pointless ever, in yet another effort to
find his place in the history books, he has declared that the USA will find a vaccine for AIDS
within ten years. No new money, no new approaches, no new legislation, just a declaration.
Why? So, that if it happens he can take credit for it...The strangest part of all this is that AIDS, a particularly unstable rapidly mutating virus, by it's
own credit, makes is all but impossible to form a vaccine, if one were to be found chances are
that in a week or two a new form of AIDS would create itself and make the vaccine useless. The
real sad part of all this is that AIDS is totally preventable using technology that has been around
since before AIDS itself. Its not in the air, or the water, you can't get it by shaking hands, sharing
combs or touching an infected person. Basically the only "natural way" to contact it is by
exchanging body fluids, particularly blood. The most common way to do this is from engaging in
unprotected anal sex. (from what I have read there appears to be only one man a certain
basketball player who claims to have become infected during normal heterosexual activity)
Women unfortunately by accepting certain fluid deposits are more susceptible. The other ways to
catch this nasty bug, involves the use of needles, blood transfusions with infected blood or
sharing a dirty needle, usually involving IV drug use. Now I don't doubt that eventually a tattoo
artist, doctor or dentist practicing improper sanitation procedures will pass AIDS from one
"customer" to another. Now I don't believe that anyone deserves to die a slow painful death for
what many holier than thou's would determine to be sinful behaviors, but the truth is that is how
you get it... Education, condoms, needle exchange programs and traditional STD tracking could
have and would prevent the spread of this virus.
So what about traditional health standards? Sadly this epidemic has been helped along greatly
by new government policies and the cries of protest from those who would be helped the most...
Traditionally all STD's and communicable diseases have been tracked by health services, and
notification given to all those who may have been exposed... But in the spirit of privacy, these
traditional effective means have been abandoned. Why? because the people who are infected,
don't want anyone to know what they have been doing to get infected, because they don't want to
face a loved one and say hey I have given you a death sentence through my ignorance and
carelessness and I am unwilling to own up to what I did.I believe that in this case is more important than ever to follow those traditional methods. This
disease causes death, not a rash, or an annoying drip, or an itch... DEATH being passed around
indiscriminately by those who have it... I personally have never had an AIDS test... Why I have a
risk factor of Zero. I don't stick needles in my veins, I don't stick my dick in little brown holes or
drink blood or patronize prostitutes.
Now assuming researchers could produce this miracle vaccine, at Bill's request, who would
want to use it? Gay men, prostitutes, IV drug users, some how I just can't envision them lining up
for the vaccine. But certainly health care professionals would want it? Maybe but who would
want to be a Guinea pig? Most vaccines prevent sickness by exposing you to a milder form of the
disease by producing anti-bodies. AIDS eats antibodies for breakfast. Would you like to try out a
mild case of AIDS?
So I say to you Mr. Clinton if you are going to wave your magic wand make it for a cure and
please before you make another speech... Think a little before you speak.
