Art'sfest Speech part two 7/9/98

Marijuana is Dangerous?
The word you here most often associated with Marijuana is dangerous... Marijuana is dangerous they say it in all the propaganda over and over... but they never tell
you why it's dangerous and to whom it's dangerous ...

Marijuana is dangerous to the people who run the timber industries, because hemp board and hemp paper is more durable and lasts longer than its wooden competitors..
Marijuana is dangerous to Textile and plastics industries because hemp cloth is cheaper
and longer lasting than cotton blends.
Marijuana is dangerous to the Lawyers cops prison guards and the rest of the legal
system whom would be out of work if not for constant the flow of Marijuana arrests.

Marijuana is dangerous to the big drug dealers who would rather you did crack or heroin...
Because they are much more profitable but travel the same trade winds Those who would be put out of business if marijuana was re-legalized.
Marijuana is dangerous to the champions of industry, because in it un-motivates the
working masses, they get stoned and realize that they don't have to be the slaves
to industry. They realize that the flashy clothes shiny cars and big houses are not
going to make them happy.

Marijuana is dangerous to the government.. Why? Because of being the safest of compulsions, even safer than overeating, gambling, drinking, tobacco products and hard drugs. Those who have in the past or in the present, partaken of the evil weed represent a majority in this country. Over fifty percent of the voting population admit to having smoked marijuana, at some point... most of the rest lie about it. Is there any question in the mind of the group assembled here today, that if every person who ever took a drag, whether they inhaled or not got behind a single candidate in any election at any level of government he or she would win by a landslide...

But most of all Marijuana is dangerous to the smokers! Not because of health or mental
problems but because they become unmotivated politically, sit back as the government
continues to escalate the war against its own citizens. All the while those who would
be hurt the most by re-legalization, continue to collect their fortunes from those
of us struggling to survive at the bottom of the food chain...

Humans are curious, they always have been. Humans use drugs, they always have. Meanwhile Humans who are (or were) hard working American citizens have been stripped of property, voting rights and personal freedom are serving life with out parole for growing or possessing marijuana, many times intended for medical uses. Right now the government in its infinite wisdom is now trying to outlaw tobacco and is still releasing rapists, muggers, and murderers on the streets to make room in the prisons for drug addicts and alcoholics. Correction is the biggest growth industry in this country !!! Their solution More jails, more cops, bigger guns... Our solution Education Treatment and legalization.
My personal solution is simple. I believe that if a person who is curious and of age wishes to experiment with tobacco, hemp, steroids, alcohol, or use birth control, anti-biotics, vitamins or pain killers. They should be enrolled in a educational program on the effects of these and other drugs. Upon passing a test on effects of various substances and signing waivers, would be given permission to use these drugs as an informed citizen. I am not saying PCP or Crack should be legal, but as a civilized culturally diverse educated country we should allow access to more than caffeine, nicotine and alcohol. Certainly we would still have to have laws pertaining to driving and public use. But the police will need something to do when the violence from the drug generated undergrounds disperse.

Professor Heicken has sat and smoked each week, Because he believes in Freedom
He says people have the right to decide for themselves, what to do with their bodies as long as they take responsibility for their actions. This includes deciding to shave or not to shave to be tattooed or not, what to eat, what to drink, what to smoke and even when to die
These beliefs the professor and I share that is why I am here every week to support freedom of choice.

Julian has set up a week ritual or ceremony for us here, so that we would learn a lesson,
That lesson is that if we don't like the laws they will not change unless we do something.
We would like you to take that message with you, share it with all who will listen, tell your politicians that we just won't take it anymore.
The truth is that every time you smoke whether it be noon on Thursdays or at 4:20 you are protesting those laws and those who get caught are political prisoners and martyrs.

Each week Julian smokes and we all watch, it's about time we all smoked. Now is the time to practice your right to consume by flame... as practiced by our fore fathers for thousands of years, making it a culturally acceptable past time . So be it pot or tobacco or clover lets all light up for freedom and show our support for what is being done here for our future
Smoke em if you got em....
