Letter to President Bush concerning Social Security and the stock market
Mr Bush,
I thought this issue had been settled... Do you really believe that the best thing for our retirement funds is to invest it in the stock market? The same market that started the great depression? The same market that drops a hundred points when Alan Greenspan uses phrases like irrationally exuberant? Excuse me but people lose vast fortunes in the stock market everyday. The only way to make money in the market is for someone else to lose it. The market is just a giant poker game where the best bluffer wins ! The selling values of stocks is based solely on the opinions and yens of the players. Now you want to further inflate the market by dumping our retirement funds in it? The only entities that will be helped by this plan are those who dump over-inflated stocks on the government just before a crash. Personally I say give me back my money, let me decide, I'll take fifty cents on the dollar. It is bad enough that they take almost 10% percent of my earnings already for this fund, how high would it go when you lose our money in the market? I am willing to absolve the government of responsibility for my retirement, You know that Congress is at least as corrupt as you are. Who is going to decide which stocks to purchase? Whose company has a return favor coming? The idea of the government manipulating the price of stocks through ideological investing may sound ridiculous but that is exactly what will happen if this plan goes through. This plan is backdoor corporate welfare!!! The market is fast and volatile, the Federal government is slow and clumsy, for the American people this is a lose lose proposition. JUST SAY NO to Social Security funds and the Stock Market
